"...It’s safe to say that she is very much so an outlier in the music world, and rightfully so; as there are big things happening for her." - T.H.E. Music Essentials
Rhia is an international artist, vocalist, songwriter, engineer, performer and producer with a lifetime of music industry experience that has shone through in her latest single, “Fire.”
The Australian-born musician began her career performing to crowds of thousands that promised ongoing success, but it was her eagerness to grow as a musician that led her down an unexpected path and continued to forge her into the powerhouse she is today.
Rhia’s earliest memory is of her mother’s vinyl player. She would play her favorite albums and sing along, cleverly recording her performances on a cassette player in the same room so that she could learn and improve. At the age of 10, she was working as a session vocalist for artist’s such as Christine Anu, an Australian icon and 17 time ARIA Award Winner, continuing on to be recruited by Australian Idol to record vocals for their winners. This was Rhia’s first step in a career that saw her performing around South-east Australia as a teenager.
During those early years, Rhia’s tenacity led her deeper into the world of songwriting. She recorded, performed and wrote as the front woman for such acts as Feenixpawl, Strange Talk, and Gypsy & The Cat. Throughout her career her talent and hard work has opened the door to many amazing opportunities, including headline solo-performances as the St. Kilda Festival, Hamer Hall, Sydney Opera House and Tamworth Music Festival.
Never one to rest on her laurels, Rhia sought to expand on her experiences and further delve into her craft. At 21 years old, Rhia won a scholarship and relocated to Boston in the United States to study at the world-famous Berklee College of Music (notable alumni include Quincy Jones, John Mayer, and Diana Krall).
At Berklee, Rhia found a home in a school that attracted many other already-established musicians who were looking for ways to grow (ex. Henry Lau, Tye Zamora). She focused her studies on Audio Engineering and Production so that she could be more hands-on with her own creations. However, Rhia’s involvement as a performing and recording artist only continued to shine front and center, and she was consistently selected to perform as the leading vocalist in some of the best shows Berklee and Australian music industry had to offer, including alongside Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award Winner Mr. Harry Belafonte, and more.
Rhia saw Berklee as an important stepping stone in her career that helped her to develop a critical ear in professional audio and taught her about the US music industry in greater detail.
As an acclaimed songwriter and artist, Rhia has collaborated with some of the world’s most prominent producers, engineers, and musicians. She has collaborated with Grammy Award-Winning Producer Prince Charles Alexander (Mary J. Blige, Notorious B.I.G., Puff Daddy, Aretha Franklin, Sting) as well as one of Australia’s most-esteemed producers Simon Cohen (Justin Bieber, Snoop Dogg, Will. i. Am). She also recorded with 15 x ARIA-nominated Artist Illy on his album Papercuts.
Other noteworthy collaborations include electro-pop duo Break Science (Grid of Souls, Pretty Lights Music), performing, writing and recording as lead artist/vocalist, again with Grammy-Nominated writer/producer Adam Deitch (Lettuce, John Scofield, Justin Timberlake), writing for New Zealand duo Chores (Best Electronic Act, Breakthrough Artist of the Year), collabs as writer, vocalist/artist with Borahm Lee, whose credits include Kanye West, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Matisyahu, and finally Rhia is also collaborating with Sam Barsh (Anderson .Paak, Kendrick Lamar, Stevie Wonder, and more).
After a lifetime of notoriety in the music industry, Rhia has just released her latest single "Fire." Produced by Samuel PK Smith (Bebe Rexha) and written, edited and co-produced by Rhia, “Fire.” is an electro-pop anthem built on Rhia’s soaring vocals and melodic hooks, with lyrics about overcoming a situation where you feel squashed, finally gaining the courage to find your voice again.
